It was time. The citizens of Wisconsin have been held hostage long enough. The Democrats had to come home sometime and the bill would have passed anyway. Had they been smart they could have had some concessions instead they chose to stay and hide.
Some of my favorite quotes:
Senate Democratic leader Mark Miller of Monona said Democrats will "join the people of Wisconsin in taking back their government," but he refused to say when. (We just took it back in the last election)
"In thirty minutes, 18 state Senators undid 50 years of civil rights in Wisconsin. (Name one civil right that was undone, just one)
Before the sudden votes, Democratic Sen. Bob Jauch said if Republicans "chose to ram this bill through in this fashion, it will be to their political peril. They're changing the rules. They will inflame a very frustrated public."
(Changing the rules? You Senator have been holding the entire State hostage for 3 weeks.)

Actually, I just got off the phone with the head of the republican party leader in Brown county, they knew they could have done this all along, BUT choose not to do it becuase they thought it was proper to allow the 14 that left a chance to return and do it right. They should have returned, debated, voted, and lost to fight another day. Instead, they have made our state the laughing stock of the Union.
ReplyDeleteBut to do it they have to give 24 notice of meeting. They did not. Just like if the school or city has a meeting they have to post and announce it. It's the law. But the republicans have thought nothing so far of breaking the law. Like with holding checks? The reason fitzy boy sent the payroll check to all 14 democrats is because he was informed what he was doing was illegal. Just like leveraging fines they have been informed they did not have the authority to do that, and it was a fiscal matter so they needed the democrats there to vote on that. It did not hold either.
ReplyDeleteThis will be sent back as well.
Good old republicans always thinking the law does not apply to them.
Think I am wrong. Call any government agency, or the school district. They will tell you by law they had to give notice.
Two things
ReplyDelete1. The Senate's chief clerk said hours later the meeting was properly held. Fitzgerald said he cleared the Senate's action with the Legislature's attorneys, the nonpartisan Fiscal Bureau and bill drafters.

2. Time will tell but this could be a move to just get the Dems back in to vote on the bill. Gov. Walker does not have to sign it immediately.
